Specific Accountabilities:

  • Inspire and lead discussions within project teams to promote design, UX best practices. Advises the team on the design of quality user experiences.
  • Utilizing various multimedia software and print-based resources, creates and manipulates graphical elements for effective integration into print and electronic-based pedagogical and promotional materials.
  • Calibrates texts and illustrations and develops pedagogically informed design for print and electronic courseware and promotional materials ensuring compliance with specific standards.
  • Evaluates projects and provides clients (professors) with expert advice on overall effectiveness of UI/UX design philosophy as well as estimates of timelines and costs necessary to complete tasks related to those projects.
  • Collaborates with the team of Instructional Designers, Educational Developers, Web Developers and Designers by providing informed and up-to-date UI/UX design strategies for the creation of aesthetically enhanced and pedagogical rich resources in a variety of formats.
  • Designs look and feel of online/blended courses, online programs and promotional materials within both the university’s Learning Management System (LMS) and those built in other web-based environments (HTML 5) to ensure design effectiveness, coherence and consistency. Contributes to a style guide and/or CSS library.
  • Designs and participates in preparing print-based brochures, guides, annual reports and communication materials using advanced software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (CC), InDesign, etc
Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall design, development and support of print and electronic media resources. In collaboration with a team of Instructional Designers, Educational Developers, Web Developers and Multimedia Designers, the incumbent works with clients to understand their business requirements within the context of their digital strategy for online teaching and learning, branding, marketing and user interfaces. Applies graphic design, User Interface and User Experience Design Principles (UI/UX) to inform user experience across digital platforms including web and mobile, electronic media and print resources for pedagogical and promotional materials.
Works with Web designers to develop wireframes, look and feel, colour palettes, and content interaction to support the overall project vision. Collaborates with Instructional Designers to pilot test usability decisions. Ensures that all design work, marketing and communication materials (conferences, reports, special projects, workshops, special events, publicity for open houses for faculty etc.) are consistent with the University wide standard and demonstrates effective practices in the field of user-experience by working with a team of Instructional Designers, Educational Developers, Web Developers, Multimedia Designers and faculty in the design, development, and evaluation of such materials.
