Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department (CCSD) Fragility and Engagement Division (CCFE) 1. Internship Topic How Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Evolved into Social Enterprises: What Can ADB do to Strengthen Enabling Environment? 2. Summary of Job Description The research will delve into how civil society evolves from relying on charity to businesses that serve the greater good. It will examine some of the countries with the most vibrant social enterprises and civil society scenes and ask, what are the enabling environment for these entities to exist. The research then will examine in detail the constraints to social enterprise development in 3 developing member countries and identify opportunities for ADB to support and strengthen enabling environment for social enterprise and civil society growth. The intern will Conduct a literature review and trace the evolution of civil society into social enterprises, highlighting some examples Discuss the social enterprise scenes in 3 developing member countries where there is most conducive environment Identify what are the enabling environments for social enterprise growth and the constraints and how ADB can address them Discuss the research with the supervisor and then outline the research then conduct the research and then deliver a PowerPoint presentation for feedback and then finalize the report 3. Period of Assignment Duration: 11 weeks Timing: June 2026 onwards 4. Location ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines 5. Expected Outcomes outline of the research report draft of the report slide presentation final report 6. Education Requirements Currently enrolled in a master's degree program or PhD in social science or economics 7. Relevant Experience and Other Requirements Experience writing research report Strong writing skills and research capability Knowledge of CSOs Knowledge of business development Ability to work independently and result oriented Preferably with 2-3 years relevant professional experience Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
