CORPORATE BACKGROUND UUNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, and build resilience so countries can sustain progress. UNDP assists over 73 countries in meeting their obligations under the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Depleting Substances and its Kigali Amendment on HFCs (a global commitment that will avoid more than 80 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 2050), the Stockholm Convention on POPs, Minamata Convention on mercury, as well as the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC). INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND The Cooling, Circularity and Pollution Prevention (CCPP) team of the Planet Hub, under the Bureau for Programme and Policy Support (BPPS) of UNDP has been on the forefront of efforts to advance cooling efficiency linked to the Kigali Amendment framework to tackle the climate change and phase-down the use of substances controlled by the Montreal Protocol by partnering with developing countries, MLF, GEF, K-CEP, CCAC, Cool Coalition, bilateral donors and private sectors. UNDP’s CCPP Program helps client countries improve their capacities for sustainable production and consumption, clean air action plan, integrated (chemicals) waste management and circular economy approaches, sustainable and non-chemical development in SIDS and promotion of resource efficiency on comprehensive and long-term interventions to support change. With a regional team outpost in UNDP’s Bangkok’s Regional Service Center, the CCPP provides policy and technical advisory support and oversees project design and implementation to support Asia-Pacific countries in accessing funding from the Global Environment Facility, the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol, and bilateral donors. DUTIES Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Senior Technical Advisor for CCPP, the intern will support programme and project activities related to the Montreal Protocol, including Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) phase-out and Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) phase-down as follows: Research and Analytical Support on Montreal Protocol–related Topic (30%): Support background research for HPMPs, KIPs, and other Montreal Protocol–related projects in the Asia-Pacific region; Assist in preparing brief research notes, summaries, and reference materials for internal use, workshops, and knowledge products; Support data review and basic analysis related to refrigerant consumption, sectoral use, and compliance-related information, under guidance from the team. Project Implementation Support, Data Collection, and Reporting (30%): Support ongoing project implementation by assisting with data collection and compilation from country offices, consultants, and project partners; Help organize and manage project-related documentation, including incoming correspondence, reports, and reference materials; Support basic monitoring and documentation of project activities and milestones. Support to Meetings, Workshops, and Partner Engagement (20%): Provide logistical and coordination support for regional and national meetings, workshops, and webinars related to chemicals and waste management and the Montreal Protocol; Assist in preparing meeting materials, including agendas, participant lists, presentations, and background documents; Coordinate with internal colleagues on administrative arrangements related to events (e.g. meeting schedules, documentation); Participate in meetings as required and provide meeting notes or summaries. Other support and Ad Hoc Tasks (20%): Provide general programme support to the CCPP team of the Plant Hub regional team, as required; Assist with knowledge management, including organizing files, supporting internal databases, and contributing to communication or visibility materials where relevant; Support other ad hoc tasks aligned with the intern’s learning objectives and team priorities. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Education: Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: Currently enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or; Currently enrolled in a final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) or; Graduated with a university degree - and if selected, must start the internship within one year after graduation. Field of study: Environmental Science and Engineering IT Skills: Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools. Language skills: English is required.
