Job Description
Ares is looking for an Intern to join the Direct Lending team in Frankfurt for 3+ months starting in September/October 2025.
The Ares European Direct Lending Group has the ability to invest over €1.0 billion across the capital structure, be it in senior, unitranche or subordinated instruments. Our Direct Lending business has been leading and arranging leveraged transactions globally since the early 2000’s and in the European leveraged mid-market since 2007, where we have completed 394 transactions, investing ~€75 billion to date (as of March 31, 2025).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and analyse potential investment opportunities across different industries in DACH and Eastern Europe
  • Perform detailed company, financial and market due diligence
  • Prepare investment memorandums and participate in weekly pan-European investment committee meetings
  • Financial modelling including cash flow analysis, debt sizing and structuring
  • Participate in meetings with private equity sponsors, advisors and management teams
  • Assist in portfolio management and monitoring activities

Candidate Profile

  • Strong finance and accounting knowledge
  • Prior internship experience in a related finance position (e.g. leveraged finance, private equity, M&A, DCM, ECM, equity research, transaction services, bank lending, audit, etc.)
  • Eager to learn and understand business models of potential investment opportunities
  • Highly motivated with ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and work independently towards tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel and Powerpoint)
  • Fluent in German and English
