Description
Dynamic has an exciting opportunity for a Product Engineering Summer Intern.  The Product Engineering Intern supports the Product Engineering team in technical and operational activities related to automotive drivetrain products, including transmissions, torque converters, EV batteries/components, and other drivetrain systems. The intern will gain exposure to product engineering practices, manufacturing processes, testing procedures, and cross functional collaboration within an automotive remanufacturing environment. This role is primarily focused on learning, observation, and supporting engineering projects, while developing foundational engineering skills through hands-on involvement and mentorship from experienced engineers. Role & Responsibilities: Strategic Exposure: * Assist engineers with basic tasks related to new product introductions and product line updates. * Participate in team meetings to gain exposure to engineering project planning, timelines, and product strategy. * Support engineers in organizing project documentation and tracking action items. Technical Learning: * Develop a basic understanding of drivetrain components such as transmissions, torque converters, and battery systems. * Assist with updating engineering documentation including build charts, BOMs, A-charts, and technical records.  * Support teardown, inspection, or assembly activities to learn component functionality and product architecture. Process Observation & Improvement: * Observe manufacturing and remanufacturing processes to understand product flow and production systems. * Assist engineers with basic data collection, documentation updates, or process improvement activities. * Support small improvement projects related to efficiency, organization, or documentation. Customer & Cross-Functional Exposure: * Work with engineers who interact with manufacturing, quality, testing, and supply chain teams. * Participate in cross-functional discussions to learn how engineering teams collaborate to solve technical problems. Mentorship & Learning: * Work under the guidance of Product Engineers and other senior team members to learn engineering practices and problem-solving approaches. * Participate in technical discussions, plant walk-throughs, and training opportunities. * Ask questions and actively engage in learning about automotive products and engineering processes. Quality & Problem Solving: * Assist documenting issues identified during testing, inspection, or production. * Support engineers in gathering information for root cause analysis and problem-solving activities. * Learn basic quality and engineering documentation practices. Innovation & Continuous Improvement: * Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives such as Lean and Kaizen activities. * Contribute ideas for improving processes, documentation, or workflow efficiency. Qualifications Education: * Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering field. Technical Interest: * Demonstrated interest in automotive systems, mechanical components, or manufacturing processes. * Basic understanding of engineering fundamentals from coursework. Learning Mindset: * Strong curiosity and willingness to learn in a hands-on engineering environment. * Interest in gaining real-world experience with product development and manufacturing systems. Communication & Teamwork: * Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with engineers and technicians. * Comfortable asking questions and engaging with team members to learn. Key Expectations: * Learning-focused role designed to provide practical exposure to product engineering and manufacturing environments. * Support engineers with documentation, data collection, and basic technical tasks. * Gain hands-on experience while developing problem-solving, communication, and technical skills
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Product Engineering team with technical and operational activities related to automotive drivetrain products, including assisting with new product introductions and updating engineering documentation. Responsibilities also involve observing manufacturing processes, collecting basic data, and participating in cross-functional discussions to learn engineering collaboration.
