Description
About Origin Origin (previously 10xConstruction) is building general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction to tackle rising costs, safety risks, and labour shortages. Our modular, multi-trade platform combines purpose-built hardware with real-time site intelligence to navigate complex environments and execute tasks with precision. Trained in high-fidelity simulation and already deployed on live sites, our robots deliver 5x faster execution, 250%+ margin expansion, and significant cost savings. Join India’s most talent-dense robotics team consisting of individuals from IITs, Stanford, UCLA, etc. About the role The Engineering Intern at Origin is a rigorous role for students or fresh graduates who want to prove their mettle. You will work alongside the core engineering team on critical tasks. We expect strong coding fundamentals and the ability to learn complex architectures rapidly. You will be building tools, writing tests, and implementing features that fly on the real robot. Key Responsibilities Module Development: Develop C++ drivers for auxiliary sensors and actuators within the ROS 2 framework. Implement state machines for robot subsystems (e.g., gripper logic, battery management). Optimize existing code for performance and readability. System Support: Assist in porting algorithms from Python prototypes to efficient C++ implementations. Maintain the build system (CMake) and CI/CD pipelines for specific packages. Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and validate software releases on physical robots. Debugging & Diagnosis: Monitor robot telemetry during field tests and flag anomalies in sensor data. Debug network issues and configuration mismatches in the robot's internal network. Required Qualifications and Skills Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Engineering. Solid Programming Skills: Proficient in C++ or Python. You must be comfortable writing classes and functions. Hardware Savvy: Comfortable working with electronics and mechanical assemblies. Math Fundamentals: Good grasp of linear algebra and physics. High agency and ability to unblock yourself using documentation and resources. Preferred Experiences Built and programmed a robot from scratch. Experience with Linux/Ubuntu. Contribution to open-source software or hardware projects.
Responsibilities
The intern will develop C++ drivers for sensors and actuators within the ROS 2 framework, implement state machines for robot subsystems, and optimize existing code for performance. Responsibilities also include assisting in porting algorithms from Python to C++, maintaining the build system, and performing hardware-in-the-loop testing.
