Description JOB OVERVIEW The Co-op Intern will gain hands-on experience in a retail hardware environment by assisting with the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of hand and power tools, as well as supporting the assembly of products such as grills and generators, and learning customer service working in the retail hardware store. This role is designed to build foundational mechanical, technical, and customer service skills while working under the supervision of experienced staff. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in diagnosing and repairing a variety of hand tools and power tools, including but not limited to: 2-to4-cycle gas powered engines, battery and electric powered hand tools and manual hand tools, push mowers, generator, snow thrower, trimmers, blower, chain saws, drills, and nail guns. Document repairs and assemblies as directed by supervisor, including repair details, and labeling items clearly for future repair and/or pickup. Perform basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, and parts replacement Assembly of grills, generators, and other equipment according to manufacturer guidelines Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Follow all safety protocols and proper use of tools and equipment Assist with moving, unpacking, and staging products for the Hardware Store. Provide general support to the sales floor or service desk as needed Communicate effectively with team members regarding task progress and issues Learn to demonstrate the use of merchandise upon request Always make customers feel welcome and comfortable in the store Other duties, as need dictates QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES Currently enrolled in a high school co-op or vocational program. Interest in mechanical work, tools, or equipment repair. Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn. Basic mechanical aptitude preferred but not required. Display a professional appearance Requirements Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; frequent bending, kneeling and reaching to access tools, parts and equipment. Manual dexterity to safely use hand and power tools and handle small components Ability to work in a workshop/retail environment with moderate noise, dust, and temperature changes. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses and gloves. Ability to lift and move items up to approximately 50 pounds with assistance when necessary. Comfortable working with hand tools and light power tools.
