JOB DESCRIPTION

M.Sc. thesis: Design and Implementation of an ultra low cost Bluetooth Low Energy digital core for wireless communications
Description:
The project aims to design and implement a customized implementation of a BLE device for wireless communications. The goal is to create an ultra low cost (i.e. very small) solution by limiting the BLE device modes and functionality. The challenge of the assignment will be to study the BLE protocol, carve out a minimal functionality set and create a very efficient Hardware based solution.
The implementation will focus primarily on the digital HW design for MAC, the Radio PHY is a given.
An initial plan is:
1.Familiarization with BLE protocol: 2 weeks
2.Define minimal functionality required: 2 weeks
3.Create HW design specifications for implementation: 1 month
4.Design implementation and simulations: 3 month
5.Thesis writeup: 1 month

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good understanding of digital design and hardware description languages (e.g., Verilog, VHDL, etc.)
  • Good understanding of wireless protocols

Optional skills

  • Good embedded programming skills using C/C++
