Examples of tasks include developing algorithms, developing software, coding at various levels from high level to assembly, integrating processors (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, GPU) into flight hardware, programming robots, performing system ID of drones, generating trajectories, flying drones, analyzing test data, modeling/simulating dynamic systems, etc. Mentoring and training will be provided.

We are looking for interns with a passion for research in aerospace navigation/guidance, autonomous systems and control, machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, algorithm development, neural networks, computer vision/image processing, sensing and perception, localization, sensor fusion, high-fidelity dynamic simulation, software and hardware development. Our program is interdisciplinary and welcomes students in the following majors:

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Electrical/Computer Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Robotics or Artificial Intelligence
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Other STEM majors related to the above.

QUALIFICATIONS WE REQUIRE

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.

QUALIFICATIONS WE DESIRE

  • Experience with Guidance, Navigation, and Control
  • Classes in machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, computer vision, etc
  • Experience with embedded systems, drones, robots, or other systems used in autonomy, or a motion capture system.
  • Proficiency in Linux, ROS, or some engineering software like Simulink, Verilog/VHDL, Mathematica, etc.
  • A GPA of 3.5/4.0 or higher

NNSA REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDPEDS

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date
