Position Summary: The integration of current coursework into an internship bridges the gap between academic study and professional practice, forming a bidirectional learning cycle. This process allows interns to apply theoretical frameworks to real-world challenges while using professional experiences to refine and deepen their understanding of academic concepts. Internship Learning Objectives and Outcomes: * Develop proficiency in core laboratory techniques, including macrophage isolation, cell culture, RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and qPCR. * Understand experimental design and the rationale behind modeling inflammation and metabolic stress in vitro. * Analyze and interpret gene expression data using the ΔΔCt method and basic statistical tests. * Build skills in troubleshooting experiments and maintaining accurate laboratory records. Communicate scientific findings through a brief presentation and written summary. Expected Outcomes: By the end of the internship, the student will have gained introductory knowledge of biomedical research, liver biology, laboratory safety, research ethics, and experimental design. The intern will also develop basic supervised skills in scientific observation, data interpretation, literature discussion, scientific communication, and introductory laboratory techniques such as pipetting and basic sample handling.
