Position Title: Intern, Vision Mate & Peer Support Programs Full Time, Contract Reports To: Manager, Programs & Community Engagement I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager, ON Programs and Community Engagement, this entry-level intern position is responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Vision Mate, Peer Support, Social and Recreational programs for Thunder Bay and the Northwest Region. This position requires good client service skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and participants. Over the course of this internship, the intern will progressively increase their responsibilities, and culminating with them having the skills and confidence to plan, deliver, and evaluate CNIB wellness programming. II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities: * Assist in recruiting, training, engaging, and managing a team of volunteers who deliver Peer Social and Recreation Groups. * Ensure Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility embedded in all CNIB programs. * Assist with the promotion of our commitment to volunteer engagement at every opportunity and developing the volunteer base needed to support local operations. * Bring our values to life – pushing yourself to work with passion, determination, ambition, and a positive spirit to change people’s lives, and society itself. * Ensure understanding of, and compliance with, all CNIB's policies and procedures. * Act as a member of the applicable Knowledge Coalition Groups comprised of peers from across the country to share resources, challenges, and successes and contribute to the development and refinement of best practices in this program area. * Collect outcome and evaluation data from program participants. * Maintain data in client management system (Salesforce). * Assist with the management program budgets. III. Qualifications Knowledge and Skill Requirements * Well-developed interpersonal skills. * Ability to manage relationships with individuals, groups, partners, and organizations * Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at both internal and external levels. * Experience with Salesforce an asset. * Strong computer skills (e.g. proficient with Outlook, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.). * Working knowledge of technical aids and devices for people with sight loss is an asset. * Experience working with volunteers. * Knowledge and skills in recreation and leisure studies an asset. * Leadership and mentoring skills. * Creative and innovative problem-solving skills. * Detail-oriented, highly organized. * Excellent project and time management skills. * Must be mature and responsible. * Must be able to travel independently within the region via public transit or car (taxi, Uber etc.) * Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with all departments. Experience and Education * Post-Secondary degree or certificate in a related field of study or equivalent experience. * Recreation and Leisure studies or equivalent from an accredited program is an asset. * Experience in comparable position within a non-profit, voluntary organization an asset. Work Environment * Willingness to work flexible hours. * Regular travel within the region. This position is based out of Thunder Bay and will require some travel within Northwestern ON region. * Workplace is office-based, with regular community-based programming.
