INTERN WITHIN BIO SURFACES FOR THE AERONAUTICS INDUSTRY (D/F/M)

As an intern you will learn about surface technologies for future sustainable aircraft. As an intern at Airbus CRT you will be a member of the materials team and work in research projects dedicated to surface technology and materials. The focus of the internship is the development of sustainable bio-based surface treatments replacing the chemical based processes used at the moment in aeronautics surface treatment (e.g. for cleaning, activation, paint removal).

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Enrolled full-time student in the area of Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Surface Engineering or an equivalent field of study.
• Fluent in English.
• Software skills (programming languages) and technical skills.
• Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint or similar software).

EXPERIENCE LEVEL:

Student

• Surface engineering for aerospace applications.
• Bio based surface treatment.
• Working in a transnational environment.
• The internship will start with the analysis of the state of the art of bio-based materials and surface treatments, followed by the development of new surface treatments including first parameter studies.
• The evaluation of the performance of these new surface treatments and coatings by analytical methods as well as by standard surface tests (e.g. corrosion, paint adhesion, chemical resistance) applied in the aerospace industry will also be part of the internship.
• One major application in this context is the use of enzymes as biocatalysts.
• This way the internship is an important element in the preparation of a sustainable manufacturing of future aircraft.
