Description

International Freight Coordinator

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a full-time freight coordinator to join our Supply Chain team. Reporting to the Logistics Manager, you’ll oversee and execute our international logistics and support our national freight needs. That includes sourcing and awarding freight, coordinating suppliers, forwarders, warehouses and customers, and making sure our orders arrive when they should. You’ll also help the Logistics Manager review our freight providers and improve our logistics procedures. It’s a role for someone who enjoys problem-solving, chasing the detail and keeping a lot of moving parts on track.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll bring advanced knowledge of international freight and domestic freight. A strong working knowledge of Incoterms, sea freight equipment & services and customs and logistics documentation is essential. Knowledge of stainless and performance steels is a bonus, and we’ll teach you our products and processes.

What we really value is how you work. We’re after someone who is highly organised, persistent and diplomatic, who can juggle multiple jobs at once and uses sound judgement and initiative to see them through. You’ll have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, good communication skills and a working knowledge of business software. A basic understanding of workplace health and safety practices is also desirable. If you take ownership of a shipment rather than passing problems along, you’ll do well here, and there’s genuine room to grow with a national business.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Order Processing & Freight Coordination – Primary Function

  • Obtain freight quotes, compare approved providers and award freight orders to forwarders
  • Coordinate logistics between suppliers, forwarders, warehouses and customers
  • Liaise with suppliers to coordinate timely dispatch and keep delivery dates in our ERP up to date
  • Monitor shipments, maintain documentation and keep stakeholders informed of significant changes
  • Manage customs and logistics service provider activities, ensuring customs clearance compliance
  • Monitor deliveries to avoid demurrage and other fees
  • Investigate and resolve freight invoice discrepancies, rate variations and service issues
  • Review active and overdue purchase orders and follow up with suppliers and Purchasing

Domestic Transport – Secondary Function

  • Obtain transport quotes and arrange provider allocation, documentation and freight labels for domestic orders when required
  • Work out preferred transport suppliers for common delivery locations around Australia
  • Support our warehouse despatch coordinators with transport provider selection and booking as required

Supplier Review & Development

  • Collect and analyse freight data to monitor carrier performance, freight spend and supply chain efficiency
  • Evaluate the service, pricing and competitiveness of our forwarders, carriers, customs providers and transport suppliers
  • Support the Logistics Manager with formal supplier reviews, annual freight tender analysis, and the assessment and testing of new logistics providers

Divisional Support, Reporting & Improvement

  • Support the Document Control team and our Projects, Indents & Contracts team as required
  • Report monthly on FCL and LCL costs and transit times from major ports for our Purchasing and Projects teams
  • Advise management of international freight market changes and domestic transport issues
  • Develop and maintain logistics procedures, work instructions and reference guides to support consistency and staff training

Reporting & Market Insight

  • Report monthly on FCL and LCL costs and transit times from our major ports, for use by Purchasing and our product teams
  • Track international inventory order logistics costs
  • Advise management of freight market changes and disruptions, such as port congestion, shipping route closures and regional flooding

Responsibilities are not limited to those listed above.
