Job Introduction
DAC Beachcroft is currently recruiting within its OGC for a newly qualified International Lawyer, based in Leeds although location is flexible for the right candidate.
The candidate will work with existing colleagues of OGC and the wider business in respect of a broad range of work with particular emphasis on International. The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role.
OGC deals with insurance, claims & complaints, data protection & information security, financial crime & sanctions, contracts with clients and suppliers, business continuity, corporate governance and expansion projects for both our UK and international offices.
OGC is responsible for DACB’s operational framework which consists of policies, controls and procedures. That framework ensures that the business continues best practice and adherence to all laws and regulations to which DACB is subject.
Critical to adherence to DACB’s operational legislative and regulatory framework are OGC’s lawyers and solicitors, who provide subject matter expertise to the business in identifying, assessing, prioritising and managing risk and compliance. The role is to provide quality legal advice, support, and assistance to the business.

Main Responsibilities
- Drive forward DACB and OGC strategy;
- Provide views and input into the development and refinement of OGC strategy where requested;
- Provide pragmatic quality legal and commercial advice, support, and assistance to the business;
- Raising OGC profile across the group, contributing to firmwide and targeted communications to raise awareness of emerging risks and legislative or regulatory changes;
- Regular contributions to OGC reports, highlighting risks and informing key stakeholders of upcoming legislative and regulatory changes;
- Liaise with, and support, business stakeholders to ensure effective governance and risk identification/resolution surrounding business initiatives of varying scales;
- Support effective responses to business queries, team development, supervision and training;
- Assist with the annual International Compliance Survey as part of our insurance renewal and, where relevant, bulk practising certificate renewal;
- Work with DACB’s international offices and affiliates to ensure appropriate risk and governance policies, controls, procedures and precedents are put in place and maintained, keeping them as harmonised with DACB’s group legislative and regulatory operational framework insofar as is legally possible. Lead on the translation of OGC material to harmonise DACB’s compliance requirements and to promote the framework in which the global business operates;
- Work with Locations Heads, MLRO/Deputy MLROs, and Data Protection Officers, and other key stakeholders as required. Work with the international offices’ Company Secretaries with filing or regulatory obligations as required from time to time;
- Support colleagues dealing with cross-border instructions or new lines of business;
- Draft and negotiate effective and profitable management of cross-border client, supplier and third party contracts/relationships and associated risk across different agreement types. Provide technical and practical advice to commercially resolve negotiation points and advising the business accordingly;
- Support the supplier due diligence and revalidation;
- Conduct research into legislative and regulatory difference in relation to new office opening and business as usual operations for DACB’s international network.
- Undertake regular scanning of legislative and regulatory changes that may affect DACB’s international business, and, put forward ideas and potential solutions to address them.
- Assist with the responses to client diligence requests, identifying emerging trends and patterns behind requests and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency of responses; and
- Review the OGC’s elements of any International Working Requests as part of the STIW Committee.
The Ideal Candidate
- An appropriate degree or qualification and compliance knowledge and experience is required.
- Ability to analyse information and to use the results of that analysis to make effective decisions and find solutions, demonstrating strong technical expertise.
- Ability to communicate persuasively, both verbally and in writing
- Pragmatic, commercial and solutions driven.
- Experience of process improvement and simplifying, streamlining and automating processes.
- Excellent attention to detail. The ability to plan and organise effectively in order to meet business priorities and have the ability to work under pressure.
- A good team player who is supportive of other colleagues within the whole business and who is able to develop and maintain a strong colleague network.
- The ability to work on your own initiative and manage your own workload.
- Respond positively to change and adapt easily to new process.
- Good IT skills, with a knowledge of Microsoft Office packages although further training can be given if required.
- Flexibility to travel to other offices as required - this can involve staying away from home.
- The ability to communicate persuasively, both verbally and in writing, in more than one language (preferably Spanish, French, Italian or German or other European languages)
- Previous experience working or living in an international environment is advantageous, but not essential.
