At Great Western House, we have been providing accommodation and support services to international protection applicants for more than 23 years. We are currently looking for a motivated, passionate, caring person, to join our management team as centre manager, to take the lead in our efforts of constantly improving the service we provide to our residents, and supporting our staff in their continued growth and upskilling.
Your work as centre manager will be supported by our highly experienced team, including our current centre manager, who will continue to be involved as the managing director.

The duties of the centre manager include;
- To take on a leadership role within Great Western House and assume responsibility for the management of the service
- To organise the induction and training of staff, and to help build capacity within the team
- To supervise and provide support to the staff
- To model leadership behaviours and embed a positive values led culture
- To contribute to the development of reflective practice in the service
- To work with the leadership team and wider team to identify gaps in service provision and develop a plan to reduce these
- To ensure the day-to-day operations of the service run smoothly and in accordance with the policies and procedures
- To carry out administrative and financial procedures in accordance with organisation policies
- To ensure that administration and recording systems are in place and appropriately operated, and develop any new systems that improve centre operation
- To ensure that all incidents, emergencies, events and handovers are recorded using the recording systems in place
- To ensure a safe, welcoming and friendly environment is maintained in the operation of the centre
- To assume responsibility for and participate in carrying out any duties ordinarily performed by other team members if required to ensure a continuity of service delivery during staff shortages
- To be proactive in addressing difficult or problematic situations as they arise in a sensitive and direct manner within the framework of the organisational policies and procedures
- To have full responsibility as a Mandated Person and Designated Liaison Person for the centre
- To work effectively and in collaboration with IPAS, HIQA, HSE, Tusla, Gardai and all relevant agencies
- To communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues and residents
- To develop and maintain positive and mutually beneficial relationships with relevant external agencies
- To ensure that health and safety standards are maintained and adhere to related policies and procedures at all times
- To ensure that the policies and procedures informing the running of Great Western House are adhered to
- To work positively and effectively as a member of a team
- To carry out a range of administration tasks
- To organise and contribute to team meetings and other meetings as required
- To continue to learn and develop professionally through participating in training and workshops
- To ensure adherence within the service at all times to IPAS policy and procedures
- To ensure that confidentiality is maintained in accordance with the data protection policies and procedures and agreed information sharing protocols
- To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested
The ideal candidate will have;
- A minimum of 5 years experience of working in the area of caring for vulnerable people
- A minimum of QQI level 7 social care education or equivalent
- A commitment to the vision, mission and values of the centre and the achievement of the organisation’s goals
- An understanding of the nature of dealing with vulnerable people
- Integrity and an ability to build trusting and respectful professional relationships
- A trauma-informed approach to service delivery
- Good leadership and problem-solving skills
- A creative and dynamic approach to service delivery
- Good written and oral communication and I.T. skills
- Strong Interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Strong advocacy skills
- A receptiveness to feedback from residents and colleagues
- An ability to contribute to the prevention and management of challenging behaviours and effective skills in dealing with challenging and pressurised situations
- Resilience and a positive outlook
- A practical common sense approach
- An ability to understand, prevent and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour
- An openness to change
Experience of the following is highly desirable but not essential;
- An understanding of a broad range of issues including inclusion, diversity, domestic abuse, mental health, addiction, trauma, relationship and family breakdown, poverty and social exclusion
- An understanding of medical, social welfare systems and social care
- Experience of working in a supervisory capacity in a comparable service (homeless, community etc.)
- A recognised third-level qualification (minimum level 7) in social care or a related field
- Experience working cross-culturally and working with protection applicants and refugees
All persons working in Great Western House are required to be garda vetted. The successful candidate must have a garda vetting disclosure that does not identify any issues which would preclude you from working with vulnerable people in a care setting.
