POSITION SUMMARY:

The Administrative Assistant for the International Student Services Office provides comprehensive day-to-day clerical and organizational support to staff and students, ensuring smooth operations and excellent service. As the first point of contact for many international students, this position requires professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and strong organizational skills. The role contributes to MIU’s international education initiatives by managing administrative processes, facilitating effective communication between staff, students, and external partners, and supporting the delivery of high-quality programs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of administrative or office experience, ideally in higher education.
  • Familiarity with database management and student records systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and demonstrated cultural sensitivity.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage front desk operations by responding to general inquiries, greeting visitors, and directing students to appropriate staff resources.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases related to international student applications, admissions, and program participation.
  • Organize and manage schedules for meetings, appointments, and events supporting international education.
  • Coordinate communication between faculty, students, and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate information flow.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and promotional materials for international education programs.
  • Provide general administrative support, including answering calls, responding to emails, and managing office supplies.
  • Support event planning such as orientations, workshops, and student success programs.
  • Assist with immigration-related paperwork and processes, including OPT/CPT documentation, under supervision.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT / SUPERVISOR:

This position requires adaptability, attention to detail, and a strong service orientation. The supervisor will provide training on university systems and international student policies to ensure the Administrative Assistant is set up for success.
