The International Tax Manager will play a critical role in performing tax analysis and managing key Canadian tax attributes (e.g., surplus and ACB) to support tax planning projects. The role will also manage the foreign tax provision, forecast, and compliance activities related to our international subsidiaries. The ideal candidate will have deep understanding of the Canadian foreign affiliate and reorganization rules but will also have the experience and judgment to synthesize and work with a high volume of foreign tax rules as they pertain to our international operations.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the preparation and review of various tax attributes (e.g., surplus, ACB, excluded property, etc.) to support tax planning projects and to ensure compliance with technical requirements while developing and executing a long-term strategy to centralize and automate calculations.
  • Manage the tax provision, forecast, and compliance activities for certain international entities in collaboration with Nutrien’s global tax team and other business units.
  • Manage and execute repatriation strategies for certain foreign jurisdictions while working in close collaboration with other teams (e.g., accounting, legal, treasury, and external advisors).
  • Provide technical guidance to tax reporting team for reporting high-complexity or cross-border transactions.
  • Support tax audits and inquiries for international entities as well as foreign affiliate matters for Canadian tax audits and inquiries.
  • Identify opportunities to automate workflows and collaborate with the tax technology team to automate processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, treasury, and external advisors to ensure alignment on tax positions and reporting.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting the Canadian foreign affiliate regime and provide timely updates and guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing tax strategies to optimize tax efficiency within the Canadian international tax framework.
  • Maintain and enhance internal processes and controls related to international tax compliance and reporting.
