JOB OVERVIEW & ROLE SPECIFICATION:

We are seeking a highly motivated, proactive leader to join the department to lead a number of exciting policy priorities of Ministerial importance. The role is within the International Affairs and Security team which supports economic growth in Scotland through the promotion of trade between Scotland and the World; coordinates high-value inward investment opportunities to secure Scottish jobs; liaises with local stakeholders to improve international trade opportunities in Scotland.We also support prosperity and security in Scotland by engaging with international partners, OGDs and Business Representative Organisations.
The job holder will play a key role delivering the Brand Scotland agenda, which is a personal priority of the Secretary of State for Scotland and be responsible for International Trade and Business Policy relating to Asia, Europe and Australasia. The role covers a number of key areas.
International Trade Promotion: You will be required to work ly with Ministers, Special Advisers and senior officials from across and outside government to deliver trade missions to key markets.
Free Trade Agreements Policy: Ensure that Scotland and the Scotland Office’s interests are represented in UK government trade policy working ly with the Department of Business and Trade and the Treasury.
Business Policy: Lead on business engagement with a range of organisations, representing the government policy to senior stakeholders and identifying opportunities for inward investment and exports.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities and duties include:

Working

  • ly with Ministers, Spads, Senior Civil Servants and Private Offices to understand Ministerial priorities and areas of interest, drawing on strategic tools and approaches in translating those priorities into concrete actions;
  • Delivering trade missions by working with other government departments, the overseas network, industry and key stakeholders across Scotland.
  • Building key networks and working relationships with other departments, e with the mission of influencing their respective policy agendas and delivery priorities to align with the Scotland Office’s priority outcomes;
  • Working on key Ministerial policy priorities designed to strengthen and support economic growth in Scotland. This includes developing policy proposals and departmental positions designed to maximise the economic impact of Brand Scotland;
