Description

Company Description
Statkraft has been making clean energy possible for over a century. That’s what we offer. 125 years of unrivalled expertise in supplying the world with what it needs most. We envision a world that runs entirely on renewable energy. Because in the fight against climate change, we don’t see renewable energy as part of the solution – we believe it must be the solution. With us, you’ll shape a career that is truly forward-facing with many amazing opportunities and offerings to match.
But there’s more work to be done – that’s why we need you to join us

WHAT WE DO:

A key challenge of the energy transition is to ensure a stable and efficient energy supply with a noticeable increase in the share of wind and solar energy. Our intraday trading team in Düsseldorf is making an important and exciting contribution to this. We manage one of Europe’s largest renewable energy portfolios on the relevant short-term markets, thus enabling the successful integration of wind and solar energy into the energy market. To do this in the most efficient manner, we rely on models which we develop in collaboration with our interns.
Job Description

We are looking for interns that will be focusing on energy modelling and on quantitative analysis. The focus of the internship can vary between the two and can be summarised in three main tasks:

  • Model Development: In collaboration with our traders, enhance our in-house models used for trading. The quantitative analyst role will focus on developing e.g. systematic trading strategies, risk assessments and/or short-term price forecasting models. The energy modeler role will mainly work on our fundamental energy system models, exploring how short-term changes in the energy system impacts the intraday price movements and/or refine our renewable energy forecasting models. For both roles, you’ll use machine learning, time series analysis, and/or statistical data analysis
  • Operational Support: Contribute to daily operations through coding and reporting tasks
  • Trading Insights: Shadow our intraday trading activities and identify opportunities for model or trading strategy improvements. You may also develop your own trading strategies and potentially test their performance in the actual market supported by our traders

Note that you will receive an extensive onboarding from our traders and that you have enough time to become familiar with our programming infrastructure and the way we work in Statkraft. We will support you in developing your skills and becoming a valuable member of our Intraday Power Trading Team.
Learning on the job: At our Düsseldorf office, you will gain experience collaborating with colleagues from diverse national backgrounds in a highly competent and innovation-driven environment. You will gain first-hand experience in electrical energy trading through the short-term physical markets, deepening your understanding of energy system dynamics and price formation. Your quantitative project work will enhance your coding and analytical skills and by being part of a diverse and supportive team you will get a great experience for your future career.
