Description

The Experimental Surgery Facility is a satellite centre of the ECVAA, is equipped with state-of the-art equipment and provides veterinary support for challenging experimental trials in which anaesthesia and analgesia are required. Cardiovascular, neurovascular and transplantation surgeries are highly represented in our case log, mostly carried out in pigs, minipigs, rabbits and rats. The Facility is currently engaged in the GLP certification.
The Experimental Surgery Facility of the Experimental Animal Center, University of Bern, Switzerland, is opening a 12 month internship in Laboratory Animals focusing on anaesthesia, analgesia and peri-operative care of experimental animals starting April 2025 or by agreement.
Tasks
The successful candidate will provide anaesthesia and peri-operative care to the experimental animals under the direct supervision and teaching of at least 1 ECVAA Diplomate. Furthermore, she/he will profit of routine scientific exchanges with 5 ECVAA Diplomate mainly working at the Anaesthesia Service of the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Berne. During the internship, clinical work in the other facilities of the Experimental Animal Center under the supervision of ECLAM residents, ECLAM and ECZM diplomates is also foreseen.
Requirements
For this position, a genuine interest and motivation in the research setting, in working in a multi-professional and multi-lingual team and in contributing to the advancement of medical and veterinary research is required. The candidate must have enthusiasm for anaesthesia, comply with the culture of care, be a team player, have good communication skills, fluent English language and willingness to learn basic German.
The applicant should have a master degree in Veterinary Medicine and have collected some previous anaesthesia experience. Experience in ICU and/or with research animals are of advantage.
