The Position

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic student to join our team for an exciting internship that can seamlessly transition into a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis project. The focus of this work will be on the development and characterization of novel electrochemical enzyme biosensors for integration into medical devices. This project offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research at the intersection of electrochemistry, material science, and biomedical engineering.

Potential research areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Enzyme Immobilization: Exploring and optimizing various techniques for the stable and efficient immobilization of enzymes onto electrode surfaces
  • Electrode Material Modification: Investigating novel electrode materials and surface modifications to enhance sensor performance (sensitivity, selectivity, stability)
  • Electrochemical Detection Strategies: Implementing and optimizing different electrochemical techniques (e.g., amperometry, voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy) in a state-of-the-art for analyte detection
  • Miniaturization and Integration: Contributing to the design and fabrication of miniaturized biosensor components for potential integration into medical devices
  • Performance Evaluation: Characterizing the analytical performance of the developed biosensors in relevant matrices and assessing their suitability for medical applications

The specific focus of the BSc/MSc thesis will be defined based on the student’s interests and progress during the internship.

Responsibilities

YOUR TASKS DURING THE INTERNSHIP:

  • Literature review on relevant topics (electrochemistry, enzyme biosensors, medical devices)
  • Assisting in the design and fabrication of electrochemical sensors
  • Performing experiments involving enzyme immobilization and characterization
  • Conducting electrochemical measurements and data analysis
  • Maintaining accurate laboratory records and presenting findings in team meetings
  • Contributing to the preparation of scientific reports and presentations

YOUR TASKS DURING THE BSC/MSC DIPLOMA WORK:

  • Independently executing experiments based on the chosen thesis topic and discussed weekly plan
  • Optimizing sensor performance and conducting thorough characterization studies
  • Analyzing and interpreting complex data sets
  • Writing a comprehensive scientific thesis
  • Presenting the research findings in a final presentation
  • Potentially contributing to scientific publications
