This is a detail-oriented, data-intensive role, which requires strong critical thinking, out-of-the-box research capabilities and communication skills. Ideally, you will:

  • Be an avid consumer of technology- / disruption-related content (e.g. books, blogs, articles, documentaries, podcasts, etc.) and willing to express a point of view on major technological shifts in society;
  • Be able to “think up” - from product, to company, and into market dynamics. You should have perspectives on what makes a product, company, and industry great;
  • Demonstrate strong written/communication skills and be able to support the preparation of management presentations;
  • Be comfortable with Excel/Google Sheets and databases;
  • Be able to run and deliver a project with minimal supervision.

At Inovia, the “how” we do things is as important as the “what” we do. As such, the ideal candidate will also:

  • Demonstrate a curious, creative, structured, data-driven approach to problem-solving and research;
  • Embrace a collaborative and team-oriented approach to problem solving;
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and thrive in a dynamic environment;
  • Exhibit a high level of initiative and take ownership of assigned tasks;
  • Demonstrate a “learn-it-all” mentality rather than a “know-it-all” attitude;
  • Demonstrate rigour, professionalism, and punctuality in all aspects of work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • In the process of completing an undergraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Math, Data Science, Computer Science;
  • Must have at least 2 years completed as an undergraduate (exceptionally, for candidates with the right blend of experience and passion, we will consider undergraduate students who have completed 1 year of their academic program).
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW:

We are hiring Interns for our Venture Investment Team. This internship opportunity will allow you to gain a rich understanding of the startup world, grow your network and deepen your knowledge of venture capital investing and fundraising. We believe this role is ideal for those who might want to understand VC investing and fundraising from within, develop a network in technology, and launch/join a technology startup.

Note that this internship is 8 months in duration, with cohort start and end dates as follows:

  • 12 January to 21 August 2026 for our 2026 cohort
  • Note that an internship with this team could be in either Calgary (preferred) or Vancouver.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an Intern, you will be assigned to support:

  • Inovia Venture Investing focuses on Seed and Series A investments. The deal team reviews several investment opportunities every week, screening companies that have early signs of traction and can demonstrate high potential in large markets. Investors in the Venture Team evaluate the startup’s team, market, product, as well as KPIs and financials.
  • Interns will actively contribute to various aspects of the team’s day-to-day operations, spanning from deal sourcing to due diligence and portfolio support activities. Key responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in the sourcing and screening of potential investment opportunities;
  • Conducting thorough market research and due diligence on identified investment opportunities;
  • Analyzing industry trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies to inform investment decision-making;
  • Evaluating financial statements, business models, and projections to assess the viability and potential risks of investment prospects;
  • Monitoring the performance of existing companies and track relevant industry developments;
  • Assisting in preparing investor reports and updates, and/or presentations for portfolio companies.
