Position: Interpreter Services Coordinator, Department: Interpreter Services Shift: Varies Facility: Miami Valley Hospital The System Interpreter Services Coordinator oversees the organization’s interpreter services program to ensure that the needs of limited English proficiency (LEP) and deaf patients are met in accordance with organizational and hospital policies, federal law, and relevant regulatory guidelines. The Coordinator is responsible for managing all processes (scheduling, quality assurance, etc.) associated with providing foreign language and deaf interpreter services for patients from outside vendors, web-based programs, and/or hospital interpreters at Atrium Medical Center, Miami Valley Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital North, Miami Valley Hospital South, Upper Valley Medical Center, and all off-sites. This role will also develop and implement staff education on topics related to the interpreter services program, including cultural aspects of patient care, policies and regulations associated with meeting the needs of LEP and deaf patients, etc. Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the use and quality of interpreter services, identifying opportunities for improvement, and preparing reports that demonstrate the program's effectiveness. When needed, the coordinator will serve as an interpreter or translator to address billing questions/concerns, schedule appointments, assist with Emergency Department triage, and/or provide patient education materials. Fluent in English and Spanish, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interact with and understand people from different cultural, socioeconomic, or other backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to demonstrate compassion, fairness, and an inclusive approach to a wide variety of individuals and groups from within and outside of the organization. Ability to interact with patients and families of varying degrees of illness, under stressful and/or emergency situations. Skilled in efficient and cost-effective management of scheduling, department budgets, and other resources. Computer skills with proficiency in keyboarding, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.), and data management required. Prior experience with an electronic medical record platform is a plus. Proven ability to maintain flexibility, problem-solve, and make decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
