Description Job Summary The Patient Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role supports patient care by performing a variety of clinical, environmental, and clerical duties that promote safety, comfort, and healing. The Patient Care Technician works closely with patients, families, and the care team to ensure high-quality, compassionate care while maintaining hospital and unit-specific competencies. The purpose of the facility based/operating unit (OU) float pool position is to provide clinical resources in a variety of patient care departments throughout an Emory Healthcare (EHC) operating unit/facility. The float pool expects to work in different clinical areas of an EHC facility based on skill set, patient volume, acuity, and the patient care and operational needs of said facility/OU. Key Responsibilities Clinical Practice & Patient Care Performs assigned patient care duties including hygiene, comfort, rest, mobility, and elimination support. Assists with patient procedures and emergencies as directed by RN/LPN. Records patient intake and output and documents observations accurately and in a timely manner. Provides support in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes. Assists with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, and postmortem care. Observes and reports significant or unusual patient or environmental information to RN/LPN. Utilizes appropriate technology and equipment safely in the provision of care. Equipment & Technical Skills Assists in the use of clinical devices including bag-valve-mask, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, and emergency carts. Operates patient care equipment such as converter chairs, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive blood pressure monitors, automatic thermometers, sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters, and computers. Collects and transports patient specimens and ensures timely completion of applicable forms. Transports patients safely throughout the hospital as needed. Team Collaboration & Communication Communicates effectively with patients, families, and members of the patient care team. Promotes a supportive and healing environment to enhance patient and staff satisfaction. Participates in unit-based and system-wide performance improvement programs as required. Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure individualized care is delivered according to patient needs. Compliance & Safety Adheres to Standard Precautions, Infection Control procedures, and safety guidelines to maintain a clean and safe environment. Ensures compliance with standards of care, Department of Nursing policies, and hospital procedures. May participate in research projects impacting patient care. Maintains hospital and unit-specific competencies. Minimum Qualifications Education / Experience High School diploma or equivalent. Previous healthcare experience preferred, but not required.
