OVERVIEW

The role of the Inventory and Planning Manager is to oversee the daily operational scheduling activities of a fast paced, customer centric fulfilment operation.
The role will involve operational/strategic planning and efficiency identification within a dynamic delivery schedule. Balancing the contrasting elements of customer service and cost effectiveness will underpin all decisions and trade-offs, both tactically and strategically. Mentoring, developing and challenging teams to improve efficiency is a core element of the function.
Responsible for maintaining accurate stock and location data, preparing and verifying stock reports, and ensuring the integrity of stock systems. Duties include generating weekly and monthly performance reports, resolving stock and financial issues, managing cycle counts, and collaborating with the warehouse team to uphold pick and dispatch accuracy. The role also involves completing system-related tasks on time and fostering strong client relationships.

Key Accountabilities

  • Creating operational capacity plans, balancing customer demand with physical logistics capabilities
  • Working with operational DC leadership teams to communicate plans to ensure medium-long term visibility of capacity needs
  • Working with partners such as temporary labour providers, providing data and plans to give them forward visibility
  • Reducing costs and working capital through effective planning
  • To review and maintain forecast and resource system/processes so that they operate efficiently and effectively to achieve optimum capacity & warehouse task flow
  • Liaise closely with the Warehouse Team to ensure all labour issues are resolved in an efficient, accurate and professional manner
  • Maintain an excellent working relationship with the client
  • Coach, motivate and develop the Stock Team, ensuring any absence or Capability & Conduct issues are managed in line with Company policies and procedures
  • Supervise a team of Stock Clerks to ensure the effective and efficient co-ordination of the site inventory management procedures,
  • Ensure a high level of stock integrity is maintained across the operation, ensure stock is available, in the correct locations, and managed in such a way as to ensure client service levels and contractual KPI’s are met and exceeded
  • Ensure all stock variances are fully investigated and tracked through to completion and regularly review internal inventory management procedures with a view to continuous improvement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Strategic operational planning experience working in logistics / warehousing / fulfilment
  • Experience across the following: Resource planning, inventory, management across large distribution sites and warehouse capacity planning
  • Proven ability to work with wider stakeholders to reduce the cost base and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Previous experience of working in an Inventory Management environment

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office, MS Excel and building complex KPI sets / dashboards which summarise critical information
  • Strong Experience of warehousing / resourcing / forecasting systems.
  • Extensive software-based planning experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced level) and experience with ERP/WMS systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing efficient delivery schedules
  • Proven, quantifiable experience in improving key planning metrics
  • Proven track record of managing and developing teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience of leading or playing a key role in building a commercially focussed fulfilment operation.

INTERPERSONAL & COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Excellent engagement skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of managing a small team
  • Possess strong communication, presentation and reporting skills.
