Description

INVESTMENT EXECUTIVE – REAL ESTATE

Are you interested in how towns and cities develop over time? How do new houses, offices and hotels get built, and why are they built in some places and not others? The West Midlands Growth Company is the economic development agency for the West Midlands region, helping to create new jobs, build and expand businesses, attract regional investment and encourage tourism, , and their Capital Investment function is seeking an executive to join their business development team working on real estate and regeneration. The Capital Investment team focuses on brownfield real estate and regeneration, working on behalf of WMGC’s public sector shareholders (which include the West Midlands Combined Authority and its 7 constituent Local Authorities). Promoting the West Midlands as a prime location for investment, the team engages with the real estate market (including investors, developers and the advisory/consultancy/agency network) to drive further development and regeneration of the built environment across the region.
This role is a fantastic opportunity to join a small and high performing team working at the interface of the public and private sectors, influencing the future of the West Midlands. The work of the team is broad and interesting, covering a range of real estate sectors, working across the West Midlands region and leading the regional presence at key national and international events. An executive could be a new graduate or have a couple of years of post-University experience (with salary ranges reflective of this), and applicants from a broad range of subject and experience backgrounds are welcomed. All candidates should show a searching interest in “Places” and how economic, political and social factors influence them, and should be confident in their verbal and written communication skills, and comfortable working with data. An academic background in a relevant field or the social sciences, or indeed existing knowledge of the real estate and/or investment sector, would be useful, but a keen interest and enthusiasm, alongside the ability to pick up information quickly, are most crucial.

Responsibilities
  • Research and analysis on key target companies, including desk research and monitoring real estate news.
  • Monitoring of the West Midlands and UK real estate investment markets, providing insight to the broader team, and maintaining a database of transaction/developments in the West Midlands
  • Taking ownership of updating and monitoring the CRM system, including maintaining records/lists relating to targeting and relationship management, coding data generated from events and contributing to reporting on behalf of the team.
  • Attending meetings and calls alongside the wider Capital Investment team, recording notes and actions, and supporting follow up as required.
  • Supporting written communication, and the development of materials and collateral to support business development activity, including emails, slide decks, briefing packs etc.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery on key Capital Investment programmes and events, including UKREiiF and MIPIM. This includes being the key junior on the project team, supporting aspects of the event including development of the content programme, speaker acquisition, curation of invites and key targets.
  • Working with the Marketing and Comms teams, providing key sector input for various channels and campaigns including social media.
  • Supporting the broader Capital Investment team with relationship and stakeholder management, including with contacts across the public, private and academic sectors. Starting to develop and nurture own relationships within the ecosystem.
Location: As a junior role, there is an expectation that this role will be largely based in WMGC’s office in Birmingham City Centre for the first 3 months. Longer term, this can develop into a hybrid role with an expectation to work 3-4 days a week in the office (or on client/stakeholder-site, across the region as is relevant).
Travel: This role may require travel intermittent travel within the UK.
Salary: £27,000 per annum – onsite gym, pension company contribution upto 7%, 4 x life insurance, 26 days hols plus bank hols.
