PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: The IPM Specialist works towards ensuring all plants produced in the greenhouses at Walters Gardens are grown to the highest quality standard and in a safe, efficient, and economical way. Starting Pay-$23.00/hour ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Learning greenhouse insect and disease Identification. Be able to assess how seasonal changes, different environments and different crops at Walters Gardens affect these. IPM strategy and planning; familiarity with chemical rotations, biological program, biotoxicity with chemicals and action thresholds. Participate in yearly review of the IPM programs. Weekly Scouting of assigned Greenhouse areas. Weekly putting out, reading, recording and reporting of sticky card findings. Biological control planning and distribution. Spray and drench applications. Collection of samples to be sent to external labs. Follow up checks on issues treated. Setting up trials for various pesticides or plant health issues. Participate in meetings and educational events when directed by supervisor. When time allows, help other employees/departments complete daily tasks. Requirements Knowledge/Skills Required: 2+ years of Greenhouse/Nursery/IPM related work experience or Bachelor’s Degree to a related IPM field (Horticulture, Biology, Entomology) Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred Computer skills in Microsoft Office and Google Doc programs Strong attention to detail Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain after hire
