JOB SUMMARY This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Maintenance Division of the Airports Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Irrigation Technician is primarily responsible for installing and testing irrigation equipment and components, diagnosing problems, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, performing field turf maintenance and performing related maintenance and repair tasks. The work is specialized in nature and the employee utilizes skills, knowledge and abilities acquired prior to obtaining the job. Essential job functions include: coordinating field staff activity during the diagnosing and troubleshooting of irrigation system problems; reviewing plan specifications and recommending changes to proposed irrigation designs; operating equipment and hand tools used to install and/or repair irrigation components; programming and maintaining automated systems; and completing daily activity reports and inspection forms. Upon receipt of written or verbal instructions, the Irrigation Technician may make work assignments to less experienced workers and aid in the completion of the required tasks. The incumbent has full responsibility for vehicles and equipment used on the job as well as work performed by workers under his/her supervision. Work product is reviewed through regular inspection of the work performed and/or review of daily activity reports. The employee may have occasional contact with the general public to answer questions about work being performed; unusual problems are referred to the immediate supervisor.
