JOB SUMMARY The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of the golf course irrigation system under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent and 1st Assistant Superintendent. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Promotes, works and acts in a manner consistent with the values of LGM. Directs and participates in the operation and maintenance of the irrigation and drainage systems. Regularly checking for leaks, clogs or malfunctions. Identifies issues with the irrigation system, such as broken sprinkler heads, pipes, faulty valves, controller heads or electrical issues. Repairs or installs new components as needed. Performs routine maintenance, such as cleaning sprinkler heads, adjusting spray patterns, and inspecting system components. Monitors irrigation system performance and adjust watering schedules based on weather conditions, turf needs, and water conservation goals with the Golf Course Superintendent. Responds to and resolves emergency irrigation system failures. Winterizes the irrigation system for cold weather to prevent damage. Maintains accurate records of irrigation system maintenance, repairs, and water usage. Operates mowing equipment; mows greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunker banks and native grass in a safe manner. Performs bunker maintenance; rakes and moves sand, edges, and pulls weeds. Ensures that all areas around trees, bunkers, cart paths, signs and other golf course features are maintained and edged. Installs and maintains landscaping plant material and performs all associated landscaping duties.. Complies with golf course etiquette rules. Must be well mannered, display a smile at all times, greet guests, member and fellow employees when encountered, show appreciation to the guests and the members, and demonstrate a willingness to help guests and members at all times. Possesses and understanding of the importance of safety and sees that safe operation procedures are observed in all daily activities. Administers the Safety Program. Attends and actively participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings. Performs additional assignments per the direction of club or Company managers. WORK HOURS AND CONDITIONS Work hours may include early mornings and evenings on weekdays, weekends and holidays. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. May be exposed to inclement (non-threatening) weather, plant protection products, fertilizers, misdirected golf balls, and sharp and rapid equipment movement on a daily basis. Injury may result as a result of exposure to the above if safety policies and practices are not properly followed. Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Requires working knowledge of irrigation system components, operation, and maintenance. Proficiency in using irrigation system control software and equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to operate and maintain tools and machines associated with the upkeep of the golf course. Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School diploma or equivalent Previous experience in golf course irrigation or a related field preferred.
