YORK ISSP COORDINATOR (PART TIME)
The York Independent State Schools Partnership (ISSP), requires for September 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter:
The ISSP is an equal partnership of 13 secondary schools, 10 state schools and 3 independent schools, situated within the City of York. Its purpose is to provide a city-wide network of academic and enrichment opportunities for able and interested children in York.
The ISSP was founded in 2008 and has grown to be one of the leading independent state school partnerships within the UK, as recognised by the DfE. A variety of stimulating activities, designed to stretch and develop the enquiring minds of students in schools across York, are led by teachers employed by schools within the ISSP. The ISSP also works in partnership with other organisations, including the University of York and the Company of Merchant Adventurers, and provides a dynamic and distinctive partnership which enhances the educational landscape of York.
Each school has an internal Coordinator for the ISSP who liaises with the ISSP Coordinator on recruiting students and teachers for ISSP activities. They also form the Operational Steering Group (OSG) while the Heads of schools in the ISSP sit on the Heads Strategy Group (HSG). The ISSP Coordinator takes the lead in working with both groups, and with the Chair of the ISSP (one of the Heads of schools in the ISSP), to ensure events are well-planned and communicated effectively to ensure high-quality activities, with feedback gathered to inform future planning. The role brings a good deal of variety and the opportunity to work with interesting colleagues and students as well as delivering experiences not ordinarily on offer.
This is a permanent part-time role, with hours spread across 39 weeks per year. The hours of work equate to 15 hrs per week (2 days per week). In practice the hours are worked in a flexible way, with the opportunity to work from home and have a base in one of the partnership schools. Some work is undertaken at weekends and during school holidays when Masterclasses and the Easter/Summer school courses take place.
The successful candidate will be passionate about working with, and inspiring, able and interested young people, demonstrating a creativity and confidence to develop the partnership so that it remains one of the strongest ISSP partnerships in the country.
The ISSP Coordinator will be an existing employee of one of the partnership schools. Whilst not essential, it would be helpful for the successful candidate to have some teaching experience as a large part of the role is spent working with teachers and pupils. It is, however, an administrative post and there is no actual teaching of children as part of the job description. It may be possible for the ISSP Coordinator role to be combined with a part-time teaching/administrative role, or it could be a stand-alone role.
The successful candidate will be line managed by the Chair of the York ISSP (currently the Head Master of St Peter’s School York) and will be paid a salary dependent on experience and qualifications. It is hoped that the successful candidate will be able to shadow the current Coordinator as part of a smooth transition.
Further information and an application pack is available from HR@stpeterschool.org.uk (HR at St Peter’s School York, which is coordinating the appointments process on behalf of the ISSP). Informal conversations can be arranged with the current Coordinator and Chair of the ISSP. Interested applicants are also encouraged to find out more through their school’s Head and / or internal ISSP Coordinator.
