Description Position Overview: This role will serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the IT department, translating complex business needs into clear, actionable requirements. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of Power BI solutions—from requirement gathering and data modeling through report development, testing, and deployment into production environments. Key Responsibilities: Requirement Gathering & Analysis Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and subject-matter experts to elicit, document, and validate reporting and analytics requirements. Conduct interviews, workshops, and discovery sessions to identify key performance indicators (KPIs), data sources, and business rules. Translate business requirements into detailed functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria for Power BI solutions. Create and maintain a requirements traceability matrix to ensure all business needs are addressed throughout the project lifecycle. Power BI Report & Dashboard Development Design, develop, and maintain interactive reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using Microsoft Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service. Build efficient data models, write DAX measures and calculated columns, and implement row-level security (RLS) as required. Connect to diverse data sources (SQL Server, Azure, Excel, APIs, SharePoint, etc.) and develop Power Query (M) transformations for data cleansing and preparation. Apply best practices for data visualization, UX design, and performance optimization to deliver intuitive, high-performing reports. Testing & Quality Assurance Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts to validate data accuracy, report functionality, and business-rule compliance. Perform unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT) in coordination with business stakeholders. Identify, document, and track defects through resolution; verify fixes prior to release. Validate data integrity by reconciling Power BI outputs against source systems and existing reports. Deployment & Release Management Manage the deployment of Power BI reports and datasets across Development, Test, and Production workspaces using Power BI deployment pipelines. Coordinate release schedules, maintain version control, and document deployment procedures. Configure and manage Power BI gateway connections, scheduled data refreshes, and workspace access permissions. Provide post-deployment support, monitor report usage and performance, and implement enhancements based on user feedback. Stakeholder Communication & Documentation Serve as the primary point of contact between business units and the IT/BI team for all reporting-related inquiries. Present findings, prototypes, and completed solutions to stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including data dictionaries, solution design documents, and end-user guides. Deliver training sessions and provide ongoing support to empower business users with self-service analytics capabilities. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field. 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, BI Analyst, or similar role with a focus on reporting and analytics. 2+ years of hands-on experience developing reports and dashboards in Microsoft Power BI (Desktop and Service). Proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M language), and data modeling concepts (star schema, relationships, aggregations). Strong experience with SQL for data extraction, validation, and troubleshooting. Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and document business requirements using standard BA techniques. Experience with the full SDLC, including testing methodologies and deployment/release management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or equivalent certification. Experience with Power BI deployment pipelines, Premium/Premium Per User capacities, and Power BI governance frameworks. Familiarity with Azure data services (Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Dataflows). Knowledge of Power Automate for workflow automation and integration with Power BI alerting. Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira. Exposure to other BI platforms (SSRS, Tableau, Qlik) is a plus.
