Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re seeking an experienced IT Delivery Manager to lead a team of Project Managers across a diverse portfolio of strategic projects and programmes, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery that realises full business value. You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our IT landscape, applying your sharp strategic thinking and exceptional leadership skills to anticipate risks, guide delivery teams, and ensure alignment with organisational goals. Your influence will be felt across every phase, from vision to execution, as you maintain a sharp focus on quality, timeframes, and tangible outcomes.
You’ll provide senior-level oversight and leadership, ensuring effective governance, smooth escalation of issues, and seamless mitigation of risks before they surface. You will lead with clarity, inspire with confidence, and deliver with precision, always one step ahead, keeping stakeholders informed and teams empowered. If you thrive on managing complex programmes, motivating high-performing teams, and transforming business objectives into delivered success, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a team of 6–8 Project Managers, overseeing onboarding, performance management, and continuous development to ensure high-performing delivery capability.
  • Build and maintain strong, strategic relationships with stakeholders across the Halfords Group, particularly within Finance and Retail, to support successful project outcomes.
  • Foster close collaboration within Technology and the Transformation Office to remove blockers and enable efficient, end-to-end project delivery.
  • Accountable for successful delivery of projects and programmes across your portfolio, on time, within budget, and to required quality, ensuring alignment to business cases.
  • Work closely with PMO, Resource Managers, and Architecture teams to secure and allocate resources in support of strategic technology objectives.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for delivery issues, risks, and change requests, ensuring prompt resolution and governance through steering groups.
  • Collaborate with the Transformation Office to maintain a clear delivery pipeline, identify resourcing gaps, and drive prioritisation decisions.
  • Own portfolio planning and reporting, tracking critical paths, interdependencies, and alignment with architectural, security, and data principles.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by developing and embedding project methodologies, best practices, and delivery standards across the function.
  • Partner with key external vendors, including APTOS, to improve ways of working and support collaborative delivery.
  • Provide visibility of delivery status, support reporting to the Leadership team, and ensure timely escalations and communications at senior levels.
  • Actively contribute to the IT Delivery Leadership Group, shaping a supportive community of project professionals and championing excellence in delivery.
