Who are we?
Burnbrae Farms is a sixth generation Canadian family-owned company that is operated today by the 4th generation of the Hudson family. We are proud to be one of Canada’s leading egg processors with farms, grading stations and processing operations across the country. Burnbrae Farms has deep roots and a rich heritage. In 1891, great grandparents Joseph and Jean Hudson, Scottish immigrants, purchased 100 acres of land in Eastern Ontario. While the farm originally focused on dairy and cash crops, Joseph & Jean Hudson’s son Arthur and his two sons, Joe and Grant Hudson, started producing eggs in the 1940s.
Burnbrae evolved into an egg production farm through the efforts of Joe and Grant Hudson. From 1943 to 1948, the egg layers were a side-line operation managed by Joe and Grant, while Joe was in school. By the time Joe completed high school in 1948, the number of laying hens had increased to 3,000, and the family worked together to care for the hens, dairy cattle and cash crops.
Today, Burnbrae has grown into the leading egg processor in Canada, with an attractive consumer brand and value-added products that include Egg Creations!, Simple Egg Whites, EGG Bakes!, EGG Bites! and EGGS2go!. We partner with 400 local egg farmers across the country and we operate in five provinces; including British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec and Ontario with 6 farms, 2 distribution centres, 8 grading stations, 3 processing plants grading, boiling, cooking and shipping eggs across Canada. With a bright future and ambitious plans, the company continues to grow nation-wide and currently employs over 1800 passionate, dedicated employees.
Burnbrae Farms has been awarded the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Award 17 times, since the award program’s launch more than 30 years ago, by the Retail Council of Canada. New products go through rigorous testing and screening before being considered for a Grand Prix New Product Award. The company has also achieved the distinction of receiving Platinum Level of Canada’s Best Managed Companies which recognizes excellence in private Canadian-owned companies. The Hudson family and the employees of Burnbrae Farms are proud of these achievements and of their commitment to actively contribute to the communities in which they operate.
