Key Responsibilities Assist with monitoring and responding to security alerts and events Support vulnerability management activities, including scanning and remediation tracking Help maintain security documentation, policies, and procedures Participate in risk assessments and security audits Assist with user access reviews and identity management tasks Support security awareness initiatives and training materials Help investigate phishing attempts and other security incidents Work with IT teams to support secure system configurations Gain exposure to healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and HITECH Learning Opportunities Hands-on experience with security tools (SIEM, vulnerability scanners, endpoint protection, etc.) Exposure to real-world healthcare cybersecurity challenges Understanding of regulatory compliance in a healthcare setting Mentorship from experienced cybersecurity professionals Required Qualifications Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts (networking, operating systems, security fundamentals) Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux environments Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion Preferred Qualifications Coursework or labs related to cybersecurity or networking Familiarity with security concepts such as firewalls, phishing, malware, and access control Interest in healthcare technology or compliance Experience with scripting or tools (PowerShell, Python, Splunk, Nessus, etc.) is a plus Skills & Competencies Analytical and problem-solving skills Strong written and verbal communication Ability to work independently and as part of a team Professionalism and ethical judgment Compliance & Privacy Due to the nature of our healthcare environment, interns must comply with all privacy, security, and confidentiality policies, including HIPAA requirements.
