REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven real-world experience with network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting (minimum 4-5 years). This is not an entry-level or training position.
  • Expertise in wireless systems, including WISP or point-to-point setups.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a can-do attitude and adaptability to diverse IT challenges.
  • Friendly, approachable, and professional demeanour, with the ability to build rapport with clients and team members.
  • Ability to produce detailed technical documentation and collaborate on process development.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in varying climates.
  • Demonstrated self-management skills and ability to operate effectively in a small-business environment.
  • Comfort working in a small-market context with diverse IT needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certifications such as:

  • Networking: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, CWNA.
  • Cybersecurity: SonicWall Certified Security Administrator, CompTIA Security+.
  • Cloud and Backup Solutions: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Veeam Certified Engineer.
  • Operating Systems: Linux+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate.
  • Experience with IoT deployments (e.g., LoRaWAN).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices and network hardening.
  • Industry certifications and hands-on experience are strongly preferred over academic qualifications.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Webhorse Technologies is seeking a full-time IT Field Technician – Networking and Wireless Systems to join our team. Based in Inuvik, NT, this hybrid role combines hands-on fieldwork with frequent remote support. The successful candidate will handle installations, configurations, and troubleshooting for office networks, wireless systems (including WISP and point-to-point wireless setups), and IT peripherals.
This is a mid-to-senior-level technical role with no ceiling on growth opportunities. You will have the chance to contribute to advanced network design, implement innovative IoT deployments (e.g., LoRaWAN), and move into management or leadership positions as you demonstrate success. The role also involves working closely with junior technicians to develop process documentation and create a collaborative, knowledge-driven environment.
The ideal candidate thrives in a small-business environment where flexibility, problem-solving, and adaptability are key. Comfort and proficiency in providing remote support to clients and colleagues are essential. Familiarity with working in northern or remote areas is a strong asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, configure, and maintain wireless and networking systems, including WISP and point-to-point wireless setups.
  • Design and implement office networks, including advanced configurations, security measures, and network hardening.
  • Provide troubleshooting and maintenance for office networks, IT peripherals, and general IT systems (e.g., resolving connectivity issues, configuring access points, or upgrading firmware).
  • Perform outdoor installations and handle physical labor for network deployments in varying climates, such as setting up point-to-point antennas or securing weatherproof enclosures.
  • Deploy and support IoT technologies like LoRaWAN systems.
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices.
  • Collaborate with junior technicians to create and maintain detailed process documents and operational guidelines.
  • Produce thorough documentation for network configurations, troubleshooting steps, and system changes.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians, fostering skill development and team efficiency.
  • Provide training and support to clients on system usage.
