Mackay Marine is currently seeking an experienced IT Field Technician/Project Administrator who is proficient in English and has the skills and qualifications outlined below to join our team in Leer, Germany.

IT FIELD TECHNICIAN/PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR JOB SUMMARY:

The IT Field Technician/Project Administrator is the business card of our company and aims to satisfy our customers and represent our company in the best possible way. The IT Field Technician is responsible for installing, commissioning, repairing, maintaining vessel communications, and IT equipment onboard ships. The key responsibility of the Project Administrator facet is to assist the Project Manager with service coordination, invoicing, and quality management tasks for onboard installation jobs.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

IT Field Technician:

  • Installing, commissioning, repairing, maintaining vessel communications and IT equipment
  • Remote support of IT and communication equipment onboard ships
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of communication & IT problems
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete the required documentation on work performed
  • Complete customer support documentation
  • Development of concepts for maritime IT projects and IT Infrastructure on board
  • Provide customer support outside of normal hours as required.

Project Administration:

  • Keeping all parties up-to-date on vessel schedules targeted for attendance
  • Arrange travel itineraries and coordinate attendances with local agents and authorities
  • Arrange spare parts needed for attendance
  • Handling of invoices from vendors and towards clients
  • Keeping all projects related records and evaluation documents updated

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluent in English, verbal and written.
  • Must be willing to work overtime in the evenings and weekends.
  • A good understanding of IP networking and including the concepts of routing and firewalling.
  • Be able to configure simple firewall rules on deployed hardware devices and through central site platforms.
  • Have a good understanding of L-Band, Ku Band and Ka Band satellite systems.
  • Familiarity with products from Starlink, Intellian, Inmarsat, Iridium, KVH, Cobham, Lars Thrane and Hughes.
  • Desired: Familiarity with web-based activation/management platforms.
  • Office 365 profficiency
  • Valid driver’s license & Passport
  • 3+ years plus experience in IT services with field experience.
  • Must be willing to travel internationally.
  • Must be able to lift 25 kg.
