About the job
Akkar is growing steadily: more people, more locations, more complexity across our IT estate. Until now, IT infrastructure and operations have been managed alongside broader tech and product responsibilities. We're now looking for a dedicated IT Manager to run infrastructure, security, and day-to-day operations across every Akkar location, onsite and offsite, and to bring AI and automation into how those systems work.
This is a hands-on, practical role rather than a leadership one. You'll be the person who keeps Akkar's people equipped, connected, and secure wherever they're working from, and who looks for smarter, more automated ways of doing it. We'd like someone commercially minded, who thinks about cost, usage, and return as much as uptime.
You'll need to be happy getting your hands dirty. One moment you'll be resetting a password or swapping a laptop, the next you'll be sitting in a planning conversation about how we automate a process or roll out a new system. A roll-your-sleeves-up, can-do attitude matters more than job titles here: nothing is beneath the role and nothing is too big to get involved in, from 1st-line support through to the more strategic questions.
On strategy, you'll contribute rather than set it. Direction is agreed with the Finance Director and CEO; your job is to bring the options, costs, risks, and recommendations to those conversations, then deliver what's agreed.
Core Responsibilities
IT Infrastructure & Operations (Onsite + Offsite)
- Manage and maintain IT infrastructure across Akkar HQ and all offsite/remote locations
- Manage devices, hardware provisioning, and network infrastructure across every site
- Administer software licences, renewals, and vendor admin across the IT stack
- Maintain security posture across a distributed estate: access controls, MFA, endpoint protection
- Run new starter setup and offboarding processes (devices, accounts, permissions) for all locations
- Administer Microsoft 365, MDM/Intune policies, 1Password, and network infrastructure
- Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery readiness across sites
AI & Automation
- Implement and support Akkar's AI and automation stack across the business
- Build automations that strip manual admin out of IT and wider business processes: onboarding, provisioning, reporting
- Roll out AI tools to teams with practical guidance, guardrails, and training
- Track usage, cost, and commercial return on the tools we run, and flag where the value isn't there
Scaling & Growth Support
- Design IT processes and standards that scale smoothly as Akkar opens new offices or locations
- Standardise and, where possible, automate IT onboarding and equipment provisioning as headcount grows
- Manage day-to-day vendor relationships and contracts for IT infrastructure, hardware, and connectivity
- Work with Finance/Ops on IT budget planning, cost control, and clear commercial cases for new spend
People & Process
- Handle the full range of IT work, from 1st-line tickets and desk-side fixes through to input on longer-term planning
- Act as the first point of escalation for IT issues across the business
- Coordinate with the Tech/Product team on tooling, integrations, and shared infrastructure needs
- Build lightweight documentation: runbooks, network diagrams, and SOPs for every site
- Manage relationships with external IT vendors, MSPs, and hardware suppliers as needed
- Contribute to IT strategy with options, costs, and recommendations for the Finance Director and CEO to decide on, then deliver against the agreed plan

What Success Looks Like
- The full IT estate is documented: architecture diagrams, runbooks, and SOPs for every site
- Onsite and offsite IT runs smoothly, with a clear support process and escalation path everyone knows
- Security posture is strong and improving across the distributed estate: access controls, MFA, endpoint protection
- New starter and offboarding processes are standardised, tested, and consistent across all locations
- Tools, licences, and hardware are tracked across every location, with visibility of what each one costs
- Vendor contracts are consolidated or renegotiated, delivering measurable cost savings
- Manual processes are progressively replaced by automation, with time or cost saved quantified
- AI and automation tooling is embedded in how teams work, with practical guardrails in place
- Day-to-day IT runs without needing Finance Director or CEO involvement
- No ego about the work: whoever needs help gets it, whether that's a printer jam or a systems rollout, and no task is passed over as beneath the role
