Role: IT Network Administrator
Salary: £34,000 - £42,000 Depending on experience
Location: Southampton (hybrid - min 3 days in office)
The IT Network Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimising our IT systems, networks, and services. This role involves managing servers, ensuring system reliability, providing technical support, and implementing IT security best practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to system administration.

IT Network Administrator, the role:

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and software applications.
  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and backups to ensure system reliability and data integrity.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime.
  • Manage and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Implement and enforce network policies to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Provide technical support to end-users, resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls via Active Directory and Azure AD.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes for employees, including setting up and deactivating accounts.
  • Manage cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS) and virtualisation platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Optimise cloud resources for cost-efficiency and performance.
  • Ensure seamless integration between on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Develop and test disaster recovery plans to minimise downtime and data loss.
  • Ensure backups are performed regularly and are easily recoverable.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
  • Generate reports on system performance, incidents, and resolutions.
  • Provide regular updates to the IT Manager on system status and projects.
  • Follow ITIL-based processes for incident management, problem management, change management, and service level management.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of IT policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Keep up to date with new and emerging technologies and make recommendations for their adoption where appropriate.
  • Occasional travel to our global offices to complete on-site IT tasks.

IT Network Administrator, the person:

  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in enterprise-level networking, Microsoft Azure, Exchange online and Microsoft Server management.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and tools (Wireshark, Ping, Traceroute).
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and tools (firewalls, antivirus, SIEM).
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Unified Threat Management (UTM) Firewalls and other security technologies.
  • Experience with Linux and Linux-based platforms/software.
  • Proven ability to work on infrastructure projects, from conception to completion, with a focus on delivering quality results on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with ITIL-based incident management, problem management, change management, and service level management - certification desirable.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and prioritise workloads.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to service our global offices
