MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of three years supporting server and network infrastructures in mission-critical environments with a focus on high availability.
  • Experience interacting with end-users as well as hardware and software vendors to quickly resolve problems.
  • Must have a good understanding of networking concepts including switching, routing, firewalls, VLANs, and wireless. Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure AD, Office 365, MS SQL, GPO administration and MECM.
  • Experience with VMWare including vCenter and HA; familiarity in a Linux command-line environment (including working with Apache and MySQL), VOIP, Mobile Device Management, and cellular technologies
  • Microsoft 365 Administration experience
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional internal client service; enthusiasm for working in a team environment; self-motivated, dependable and passionate about technology.
  • Organized, detail-oriented and professional verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE

Great Lakes Institute of Technology a is eagerly searching for its next IT Network Support Technician to help achieve our mission of educating and empowering the Erie and surrounding area. Under the direction of the CEO, the IT Network Support Technician is responsible for working with the information systems and providing technological support for the achievement of institutional mission and objectives. This individual is responsible for trouble shooting network issues, installing new servers, server administration, and maintaining operating stability and efficiency while ensuring the security of the institution’s network systems and infrastructure. In addition, the incumbent will provide professional and courteous user training and support and will be a team player.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The duties listed below are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Working in conjunction with the IT Support Specialist, responds to support requests from both students and staff, opening and resolving support tickets and addressing other internal client service requests, communicate effectively through scheduling work, providing status updates and solution progress on a regular basis.
  • Administer and maintain computer systems (PC), network infrastructure, VPN, backup solutions, and configuration, installation and troubleshooting of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, and printers
  • Management, configuration, and deployment of firewalls, switches and other networking equipment
  • Performs systems administration functions for the institution including administering system-level security procedures; establishes and maintains user accounts, assigns file permissions; installs, upgrades, configures, tests, maintains and supports operating system software in a production environment; reviews performance logs and monitors system performance; troubleshoots and resolves system hard, software and communications problems; performs automated and manual backup and restore processes.
  • Performs network administration functions for the institution’s interoperating LAN/WAN, including the maintenance of network functionality and the installation, upgrade, configuration, integration and troubleshooting of network software and network devices; fine-tunes hardware and software to optimize network performance and functionality; administers the firewall and network security.
  • Installs, configures and tests software packages; provide user support, conducts user software and hardware training and works with institution support to formulate technology solutions and ensure the effective safeguarding and sharing of enterprise data.
  • Deploys, maintains and repairs or coordinates the repair of hardware and software; works with various merchants, resellers, and third-party companies to ensure purchase, installation, and repair of equipment, as well as software/licensing.
  • Establishes and maintains documentation of the institution’s network and systems architecture, operating systems software, devises and communications specifications.
