JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Network Technician to assist with multiple network infrastructure projects. This is a contract opportunity ideal for a hands-on technician with strong practical knowledge of network hardware, structured cabling, and equipment installation.
The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or with minimal supervision in the field.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven hands-on experience with network cabling, terminations, and installations
  • Strong understanding of Ethernet, IP addressing, and general networking concepts
  • Experience installing and organizing network racks and cable pathways
  • Familiarity with configuring and deploying POS systems and related peripherals
  • Ability to read blueprints and network diagrams is a plus
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must own standard technician tools including (but not limited to):

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of experience in field installations or network infrastructure
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, BICSI, or equivalent are a plus

EXPERIENCE

Candidates should possess a solid background in computer networking with experience in the following areas:

  • Proficiency in operating systems including Windows, Linux (Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu), macOS, BSD, Solaris, and openSUSE.
  • Familiarity with cloud security practices on platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and services (NFS, FTP, SFTP).
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation tasks.
  • Understanding of load balancing techniques and high availability configurations.
  • Background in telecommunication systems including VoIP technologies.
  • Experience with system administration tasks including Active Directory management and GPO configuration. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. A degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred but not mandatory if accompanied by relevant experience.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, terminate, and test network cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, etc.)
  • Mount and organize network racks and patch panels
  • Connect and configure networking devices such as switches, routers, and wireless access points
  • Setup and troubleshoot POS (Point of Sale) systems
  • Label and document cabling and equipment layouts
  • Maintain site cleanliness and follow best practices for cable management
  • Provide on-site support and basic troubleshooting for network connectivity issues
  • Coordinate with project managers or lead technicians as needed

DUTIES

  • Monitor and maintain the performance of WAN and LAN networks, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Configure and manage Cisco ASA firewalls, VPNs, and other security appliances to safeguard network integrity.
  • Implement and support Cisco ISE for identity management and access control.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and implement necessary security measures to protect against threats.
  • Manage IPsec configurations for secure communications across networks.
  • Provide network support for data center operations, including SAN management and virtualization technologies such as VMware.
  • Troubleshoot routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF) to optimize data flow within the network.
  • Utilize monitoring tools like SolarWinds and PRTG to identify network issues proactively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies to enhance IT infrastructure projects.
  • Document network architecture, configurations, and procedures for future reference.
