Become an IT Principal Engineer (AI Focus) - Temporary Assignment up to 18 Months with MPAC
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is made up of a team of experts who understand local communities and assess every property in Ontario. What we do provides the very foundation that municipalities use to base the property taxes needed to pay for the services we use every day.

Responsibilities

WHAT MAKES YOU GREAT FOR THIS ROLE?

You combine deep technical expertise and leadership to drive AI integration across MPAC projects. You stay current with industry best practices, strengthen operations through intelligent solutions, and build strong stakeholder relationships to deliver impactful, AI-powered services

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Serve as the organization’s principal technical authority for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation across modern cloud platforms (currently AWS, with the flexibility to extend or migrate to Azure etc as the business needs evolve)
  • Convert corporate and departmental KPIs into an actionable AI/automation roadmap, ensuring every initiative measurably improves accuracy, speed, cost-efficiency, and customer experience
  • Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native AI and automation workflows—whether serverless micro-services, containerized applications, or full-scale ML pipelines, capable of running on AWS, Azure etc
  • Create secure, reusable connectors and APIs that integrate first-party systems with third-party SaaS platforms
  • Orchestrate real-time and batch data pipelines with cloud services (e.g., AWS Glue/Kinesis, Azure Data Factory/Event Hub etc), feeding features to ML models and analytics dashboards
  • Establish and continually refine DevOps/MLOps frameworks, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, FinOps, implementing cloud-agnostic guardrails for security, resilience, and compliance
  • Help adopt and track service-level and operating-level agreements (SLAs/OLAs)
  • Evaluate solution architectures against enterprise risk domains, data privacy, model bias, regulatory compliance, and cost of change, offering clear mitigation strategies for leaders and audit partners
  • Identify budgeting and forecasting for cloud spend, licensing, surface variances early and recommend optimizations such as rightsizing, commitment purchases, or multi-cloud arbitrage
  • Act as a trusted advisor to Directors, the CITO, and product stakeholders, bridging the gap between emerging technology and measurable business outcomes
  • Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Data Scientists, and Cloud Engineers to translate requirements into production-ready AI services that emphasize usability, explainability, and sustainability
  • Contribute to technical due-diligence for new tools, vendors, and partnerships that extend the organization’s AI/automation capabilities in any cloud
  • Stay current with the rapidly evolving AI/ML and cloud landscapes
