IT PROJECT MANAGER – RESEARCH INFORMATION & PROJECT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
We are seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to lead the procurement, implementation, and integration of a Research Information System (RIS) and a Project Management System.
This is a key role requiring strong project management expertise, technical knowledge of systems integration (including APIs), and experience within research, scientific, or higher education environments. The Project Manager will work across departments—including research and professional services—to ensure selected systems align with organisational needs and are successfully deployed.
Key Responsibilities1. Research Information System Implementation
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of a Research Information System (RIS), from selection and procurement to implementation.
- Ensure the system meets the needs of researchers and research support teams based on prior scoping work.
- Oversee integration with existing internal systems (e.g., ERP, HR, finance, research repositories, CRM), including API configurations, system architecture, and data mapping.
- Lead the development of workflows, configuration settings, and data migration strategies.
- Coordinate quality assurance (QA), testing, and go-live processes.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop reporting structures, analytics tools, and system governance frameworks.
- Drive user training, documentation, and support materials to support effective Change Management and adoption.
- Define long-term resourcing and future development requirements.
- Project Management System Implementation
- Work with a third-party consultancy to evaluate and scope options for a Project Management System that aligns with operational and financial workflows.
- Lead procurement, vendor selection, and contract negotiation in collaboration with IT and procurement teams.
- Oversee system implementation, configuration, and integration with existing infrastructure.
- Develop standardised workflows and data strategies for project teams.
- Define and manage rollout plans, including pilot phases, feedback gathering, and full deployment.
- Ensure successful Change Management through training, support, and user engagement initiatives.
Candidate ProfileEssential:
- Demonstrated experience in managing system implementation projects in research, academic, or scientific environments.
- Prior experience with Research Information Systems (RIS) or Current Research Information Systems (CRIS).
- Strong technical understanding of system integration, APIs, and data management.
- Background in software procurement and vendor relationship management.
- Proven ability to create workflows, reporting dashboards, and governance structures.
- Skilled in engaging with diverse stakeholders and leading cross-functional collaboration.
- Experienced in user support, training design, and documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to managing change.
- Quality assurance and data integrity oversight experience.
Desirable:
- Experience with Project Management Systems or other corporate information systems.
- Understanding of the UK’s research funding landscape, Open Research policies, publication repositories, and compliance frameworks (e.g., REF, Open Access).
- Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies.

Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
