IT Security Engineer - £45,000/£50,000 per annum - Scunthorpe
Principal IT are working with a leading steel manufacturer that are looking for an IT security engineer to join their team. In this role you will play a vital part in supporting their future strategy. They are looking for someone who is passionate about continuous professional development and has an innovative approach to incorporating new technologies into their operations. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the forward-thinking IT team, undertaking certified and on premise training covering numerous systems and software.
The services under your area of responsibility are typically the underpinning services, or infrastructure, that enable the delivery of customer-facing IT and Operational Technology Services. You must be aware of the strategic direction of the organisation, as well as new technologies on the horizon.
Reporting to the IT Manager, the role will is site based, 5 days a week (Monday-Friday)

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, manage, and respond to security incidents in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with relevant departments in keeping all systems compliant and report on their status.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and implement remediation plans across Windows, Red Hat, Debian Linux, and other platforms.
  • Collaborate with IT and OT teams to secure legacy manufacturing equipment and industrial control systems.
  • Monitor and improve firewall rules, VPN configurations, and network segmentation strategies.
  • Support compliance efforts and internal audits by maintaining documentation and evidence of security controls.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate in incident response planning and execution, including root cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
  • Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and regulatory requirements.
