Description DREMC is seeking an IT Senior Network Engineer. BE A PART OF POWERING SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE! Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC) is a member-owned electric cooperative, serving an area of approximately 2,500 square miles across 17 counties in southern middle Tennessee. Location: Shelbyville, TN Job purpose: The IT Senior Network Engineer is accountable for the administration, maintenance, and advancement of the Cooperative’s network infrastructure. This position serves as a hands-on technical resource for network operations, directly performing configuration, troubleshooting, and enhancements to ensure reliability, security, and continuous improvement. Job Dimensions: Internal Responsibility — Collaborates with internal departments and IT staff to support reliable network operations and business continuity. Shares responsibility for network planning, maintenance, and improvement while serving as a senior technical resource for network-related initiatives. External Responsibility — Coordinates with external IT vendors and service providers on LAN and WAN maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancements, providing technical input and oversight to ensure services meet DREMC needs. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Plan, design, implement, and maintain WAN/LAN network infrastructure. 2. Ensure network availability, reliability, scalability, and security. 3. Provide expert support and troubleshooting for Layer 2 (L2) and Layer 3 (L3) switches, routers, and next-generation firewalls; use analysis tools to improve performance. 4. Maintain accurate and current technical documentation. 5. Apply necessary patches to networking systems and software. 6. Demonstrate familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware and Nutanix. 7. Contribute to cybersecurity initiatives. 8. Resolve IT support requests promptly, minimizing disruption. 9. Possess knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and Center for Internet Security Benchmarks. 10. Implement and uphold data security, risk management, disaster recovery, and business continuity protocols. 11. Evaluate and recommend new technology solutions in alignment with organizational objectives. 12. Communicate effectively to minimize business interruptions. 13. Special projects as assigned. 14. Emergency response coverage as needed. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education —Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology (IT), management information systems (MIS) or a related field. Five (5) years of experience as a Network Engineer required with the education requirement. Experience in lieu of Education — thirteen (13) years of experience required in lieu of education. Certification/License, etc. —Industry certifications such as Cisco (CCNA, CCNP), ISC2 (CISSP), or equivalent are preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License. Must be eligible and remain insured as a driver by the Cooperative’s group liability policy for the automotive fleet. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Knowledge of current trends and developments in the information technology field. Extensive background in maintaining and troubleshooting TCP/IP networks. Extensive experience with network documentation. Knowledge of computer platforms, local area networks (LAN), web, cloud, and mobile-based systems. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, push and/or pull. Possess effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize, delegate and meet deadlines. Physical Requirements: Frequently required to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or reviewing systems data. Regular use of hands and fingers for typing and handling documents or technical tools. Visual acuity required to read and interpret complex spreadsheets, reports, and system dashboards. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and in written communications. Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, or lift up to 50 pounds (such as laptops, network hardware, backup batteries). May require extended focus and concentration when analyzing data or configuring systems. Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in a quiet, professional office environment with standard climate control and lighting. The position requires frequent use of computers, ERP platforms, phones, and office equipment. Occasional meetings with internal departments may take place in person or virtually. Limited travel may be required for field work, training, vendor meetings, or collaboration with other office locations. Work may involve periods of increased pressure during reporting cycles, audits, or system implementation phases.
