Line of Business: Technology Solutions Job Description: The IT Solutions Design Specialist leads the creation of a comprehensive end-to-end detailed solution with overall accountability for the technical design and delivery of the System Design Specification (SDS) and is largely focused on large-scale, complex or enterprise projects. May also be accountable for complex programming / coding. Job Overview In this role IT Solutions Design Specialist is responsible for the end‑to‑end technical design of enterprise solutions, with a strong emphasis on data architecture, database design, and data integration. Approximately 75% of the role focuses on the data tier, ensuring scalable, secure, high‑performance data solutions. The remaining 25% focuses on Java‑based application tier design, ensuring clean integration, service contracts, and alignment with enterprise architecture standards. This role partners with architects, developers, data engineers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust, supportable, and compliant technical designs. Depth & Scope: Provides technical expertise and guidance to others in a lead capacity and works autonomously Expert knowledge of the business, the broader organization, technical environment, processes, procedures, tools and other relevant technology areas (e.g. Architecture, Infrastructure, Security etc.) from a design / support / solutions perspective Primary subject matter expert in multiple areas and consults with clients/or project teams with respect to all aspects of research, analysis, design, hardware / software support and/or development of technical solutions and/or testing Works autonomously and leads on a diverse range of activities (e.g. design, support of technical business solutions) and is relied upon to coach / educate and monitor the work of others Acts as an internal expert resource in the exchange of technical information for project teams, and provides technical insight and recommendations to the business and/or outside vendors Typically reports to a Senior IT Development Manager or higher Education & Experience: Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate Graduate degree, preferred 7+ years related experience Preferred Qualifications: 5+ years of relevant experience will be considered Lead enterprise data-tier architecture and design, covering logical/physical models, relational and NoSQL platforms, data flows, and integration patterns (ETL/ELT, batch, streaming, APIs, messaging). Ensure data platforms meet non‑functional requirements, including performance, scalability, resiliency, availability, security, privacy, lineage, and governance. Define and govern data models and standards, partnering with Data Architecture and Engineering teams to align with enterprise roadmaps and best practices. Produce and maintain system design artifacts, including SDS documents, data diagrams, source‑to‑target mappings, and operational readiness considerations (monitoring, backup, recovery). Design and guide Java-based application components, defining service interfaces, APIs, and contracts between application and data layers. Translate business requirements into end‑to‑end solutions, identifying design risks, trade‑offs, and dependencies while ensuring compliance with enterprise and regulatory standards. Provide technical leadership and mentorship, collaborating across the SDLC, leading design reviews, influencing technical direction, and coaching teams on data‑centric solution design.
