Description:

QUALIFICATIONS

Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-07 level:
*One year of successfully completed graduate level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or the equivalent) in computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer field.

**OR one year of appropriate specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service that demonstrates performance of tasks such as: (1) Install, troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of IT systems, networks, hardware, and software; (2) Identify, analyze, evaluate, troubleshoot and resolve system, network, hardware and software problems; (3) Provide customer support and training to end-users for new systems and applications; (4) Evaluate and recommend configuration and other changes to maximize technology effectiveness and efficiency; or (5) Install and maintain desktop computers and supporting peripherals. For task examples 1-5, the level of work typically would have involved receiving clear, specific, and detailed instructions as to the methods, procedures, and guidelines to use.

Responsibilities:

AS AN IT SPECIALIST (CUSTOMER SUPPORT) WITHIN THE WESTERN ECOLOGICAL RESEARCH CENTER, SOME OF YOUR SPECIFIC DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Diagnose and resolve recurring problems in response to customer reported incidents.
  • Update and maintain problem tracking/ticketing systems to track and identify customer needs, as well as to discuss requirements with the customer to resolve the customer’s need.
  • Install, configure and tests software on customer workstations.
  • Provide routine advice and guidance to customers requesting information on established policy or procedures, including those related to information security/information assurance.
  • Operate a government owned or leased vehicle as an incidental driver.
