OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an IT Strategy Advisor who will support our NYC client. The IT Strategy Advisor will play a key role in shaping, aligning, and executing the strategic direction of enterprise IT initiatives at the NYC Department of Education. This role will partner directly with Division of Instructional & Information Technology (DIIT) leadership to provide expert guidance in technology planning, governance implementation, innovation enablement, and performance oversight. The IT Strategy Advisor will help build a multi-year roadmap, ensure transparent decision-making, and foster cross-departmental alignment across a large-scale, complex educational IT environment.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8+ years of experience providing IT strategy or consulting services to large public sector or educational clients – preferably for State and local govt agencies.
  • 3+ years of experience of enterprise IT governance, strategic planning, and digital transformation principles.
  • Proven experience in multi-stakeholder engagement, particularly at the executive level.
  • Familiarity with innovation frameworks, technology roadmaps, and performance management methodologies.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, especially in translating complex technical ideas into executive-level recommendations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year enterprise IT strategy and roadmap aligned with DOE priorities and fiscal realities.
  • Design and implement formal IT governance frameworks, including escalation paths and decision-making protocols.
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year IT strategy and roadmap aligned with DOE’s mission, educational priorities, and funding.
  • Provide executive-level advisement to DIIT leadership, offering strategic guidance on technology planning, governance, and innovation.
  • Identify and assess emerging technologies, create innovation roadmaps, and support pilot initiatives with clear evaluation criteria.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve IT planning processes, standardize templates, and align initiatives across departments.
  • Support the creation of dashboards and reporting tools to monitor project performance, funding utilization, and strategic progress.
  • Facilitate workshops, stakeholder engagement, and cross-agency alignment to ensure enterprise-wide strategic cohesion.
  • Document strategic deliverables and participate in knowledge transfer to enable sustainable adoption and continuity.
