Description:
The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) is seeking an experienced IT Subject Matter Specialist (Cloud Linux) to support the design, deployment, and management of Linux-based systems in cloud environments. This position will provide expert-level technical guidance to ensure secure, reliable, and optimized performance of BEA’s IT infrastructure as the agency continues its modernization and cloud adoption efforts.
The ideal candidate will combine deep Linux expertise with cloud computing knowledge (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and federal cybersecurity standards to deliver scalable and mission-ready solutions.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 7–10 years of IT experience, with at least 5 years in Linux systems engineering/administration.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in enterprise or government environments.
  • Strong background in system security, compliance, and federal IT standards.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the technical authority for Linux systems deployed in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Design, configure, and maintain Linux servers, clusters, and virtualized environments in support of BEA operations.
  • Lead cloud migrations of Linux workloads, ensuring security, compliance, and minimal downtime.
  • Manage and maintain system patching, updates, and security hardening in line with NIST and FISMA guidelines.
  • Implement automation and orchestration using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Provide tier-3 support and troubleshooting for complex Linux/cloud infrastructure issues.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, SOPs, and security compliance artifacts.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to enforce access controls, encryption, and logging standards.
  • Support integration of Linux systems with federal enterprise tools and cloud-native services (e.g., containerization, CI/CD pipelines).
