Arlington County’s Department of Libraries is seeking an IT Support Specialist to support the Library’s robust technology needs. This Specialist will report directly to the Business Systems Analyst III as part of the Library’s Technology Unit. Working with the Department of Technology Services (DTS) and library vendors, the position manages technology service needs that interface with both public and internal customers.

Specific duties include:

  • Tracking, coordinating, documenting and completing technology tickets as assigned;
  • Installing and configuring public and staff hardware components;
  • Troubleshooting Windows computers and laptops, library-related peripherals (such as label printers, receipt printers, barcode scanners, payment kiosks, etc.), and A/V equipment;
  • Participating in the planning of technology projects and programs;
  • Maintaining user manuals and documenting user procedures;
  • Identifying, monitoring, investigating and communicating technical support issues;
  • Performing functional testing after patching and upgrades are applied;
  • Applying configurations to specific computer profiles using Microsoft Azure and Intune; and
  • Working with DTS on County-wide technology initiatives, including hardware replacements, software upgrades, and specialized computer configurations.

The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Configuring and troubleshooting computers;
  • Hardware components for Dell and Microsoft Surface computing platforms;
  • Configuring and administering Microsoft Azure and Intune;
  • Configuring and administering Windows 11 and Office 365; and
  • Customer facing roles for internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or related field; and
  • Some experience in application training or user support and operating or working with business applications.

Substitution: Additional full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Desirable: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Experience with Chromebooks, tablets (iPads, Surface Pros), and MacBooks;
  • Understanding of authentication and access software (such as EZProxy); and/or
  • Working in a library technology environment, including use of library specific software (such as Faronics Deep Freeze, MyPC/Papercut) and hardware (cash registers, label printers, receipt printers, etc.).

Special Requirements
Possession of, or ability to obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator’s license from the applicant’s place of residence and the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant’s official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant’s driving record.
Additional Information
Location and work hours: Central Library, 1015 N. Quincy Street. Full-time, 40 hours per week to include some evening and weekend work. This position is not telework eligible. Actual work schedule is determined by the needs of the unit. This position requires traveling to other locations (total of 11) in order to complete support work as needed.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50-70 pounds.
