Responsibilities

As a System Administrator at Grand River Health, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our technology reliable, secure, and aligned with organizational goals. You’ll oversee software, servers, and network connections to maintain high availability and compliance with industry standards, while also supporting projects from planning through implementation. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with proactive problem-solving, documentation, and end-user support.

  • Monitor and maintain servers, software, databases, and network connections to ensure system reliability and security.
  • Participate in planning, deployment, provisioning, installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of business applications.
  • Support business application development and implementation throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Analyze system performance (servers, applications, network, input/output devices) and recommend improvements or upgrades.
  • Perform and schedule software and hardware updates, patches, reconfigurations, and purchases.
  • Ensure enterprise data integrity and security, including HIPAA-compliant data transfers and protection measures.
  • Research and evaluate emerging products, services, and standards to strengthen IT systems and processes.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures, coordinating communication with impacted users.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation for business applications and IT processes.
  • Manage user accounts within Active Directory, including creation, modification, and deletion.
  • Administer group policies and NTFS permissions to align with best practices.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to detect and report potential threats or intrusions.
  • Field and resolve incoming IT service requests and manage assigned tickets.
  • Assist with inventory control by tagging and tracking GRH equipment.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior IT team members.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support as required.
  • Take on additional projects and duties as assigned to support department and organizational needs.
